Frequently Asked
Q. What do you believe in?
A. Mormon Fundamentalists believe in those doctrines and practices the LDS Church no longer teaches or practices. Indeed, Mormon Fundamentalists believe that essential doctrines of the Mormon faith were wrongly watered down, modified or abandoned by the LDS Church in its effort to be accepted by the mainstream. There are various branches of Mormon Fundamentalists. Independents do not have any leaders and there are no set doctrines or practices they need to abide to, as they solely rely upon personal inspiration and revelations to guide themselves.
Q. Is this the official organ for Independent Fundamentalists?
A. We do not claim to be spokespersons for the Independent Mormon Fundamentalists community. We simply decided to create the Independent Mormon Fundamentalist Friends to offer a place for individuals across the world to find a place where they can explore topics related to our faith and where they can make contact with other Independent Fundamentalists.
Q. Why do some of the resources you list contradict each other?
A. We are not promoting any sets of beliefs or interpretations. We only aim to provide a wide range of resources. Therefore, we do not necessarily endorse the works that we share on any on the pages of this website. We list LDS, Fundamentalist and anti-Mormon resources as all can be useful and visitors are free to make up their own mind.
Q. How are Independent Fundamentalists organized?
A. We are Independents, and therefore we are not a church and have no leaders. Each individual is responsible for himself/herself and many Independents are organised as a family unit. Sometimes there are enough Independents in an area for them to worship or study together, or to partake the sacrament or perform ordinances for each other, including Temple work.
Q. Do you have meetings and offer ordinances?
A. Most of us worship on Sundays. We are Independents, and therefore we are not a church and have no leaders. Each individual is responsible for himself/herself or are organised as a family unit. Sometimes there are enough Independents in an area for them to worship or study together. Some of us are Priesthood holders who can offer ordinances. Unfortunately, many are isolated and scattered all across the world. Please exercise caution when arranging to meet strangers!
Q. Are you on Facebook?
A. There are several Fundamentalist groups on Facebook. Members of various organized Fundamentalist groups as well as Independent Fundamentalists regularly join the most active one: Mormon Fundamentalism.
Q. What do you discuss in the Facebook Group?
A. The Mormon Fundamentalism group on Facebook is one of the places where you can connect with others and where Fundamentalists of all stripes can discuss their personal interpretations of fundamental Mormon tenets, Mormon history, books, or current issues. This is the perfect place to ask questions, and share your views and/or personal testimonies with others. Feel free to respond to a post or to start your own topic. You can post about anything! We only ask you to remain respectful of others and to not proselytize for any groups.
Q. I don't want to be exposed as a Fundamentalist.
A. If you cannot be open about your beliefs, you could set up a new email account and use a pseudo to email us or to join the Mormon Fundamentalism Facebook Group. We do not mind. You can reveal as much or as little about yourself as you wish.
Q. My lifestyle doesn't fit the mould.
A. The 'Independent Mormon Fundamentalist Friends' welcomes investigators and those who simply want to find information or ask questions about those doctrines and practices the LDS Church no longer teaches or practices. As Independents, we all have various interpretations and there is no "mould" you need to fit in, and we appreciate that you are on your own journey.
I have more questions.
